The Wondrwall Thermostat

The Wondrwall Thermostat is a battery-powered device designed for easy control of home heating and cooling systems, offering both manual and wireless operation. This guide covers setup, usage, troubleshooting common issues and FAQs.

What is the Wondrwall Thermostat?

The Wondrwall Thermostat is an innovative, battery-operated device designed to manage the home's heating and cooling systems efficiently. It features a user-friendly LCD screen and buttons for manual adjustments, as well as remote control capabilities through the Wondrwall app.

Once connected to the Wondrwall app, the system intelligently optimises the thermostat's performance by analysing data on occupancy, behavioural patterns, and outdoor temperature while prioritising comfort throughout the day.

The Display

The thermostat's display provides essential information about the device's status, including:

Label Name Description
A Heat Icon This indicates that the thermostat is currently set to heating mode and is calling for heat.
B Cool Icon This shows that the thermostat is operating in cooling mode and is attempting to cool.
C Low Battery Icon Alerts the user when the battery power is running low and needs replacement.
D Network Connectivity Icon Appears when the thermostat is not paired with the network or has lost its connection to the current network.
E Mode Display Displays the selected mode and any offset adjustments made.
F Schedule Indicator This signifies that the thermostat is following a pre-programmed schedule.
G Temperature Reading/Setpoint Shows the current temperature and the setpoint for heating or cooling.

How to use the Thermostat

Connecting the thermostat to the Wondrwall app enhances its functionality, allowing users to access additional features and control options. You can also choose to operate the thermostat manually if preferred.

Below are some essential operations:

Adjusting the temperature

To adjust the temperature, use the Up (+) and Down (-) buttons to change the target temperature for heating or cooling.

Switching Modes

To switch between Heat mode and Cool mode on the Wondrwall Thermostat, follow these steps:

  1. Enter Programming Mode: Press and hold the Down (-) button for 3 seconds until the screen shows 'Pro Mod'.
  2. Pause: Release the Down (-) button and pause until the screen says 'Pro Set'.
  3. Select Mode: Use the Up (+) or Down (-) buttons to switch between the two modes, Heating and Cooling, represented by a flame icon for heating and an icicle icon for cooling.
  4. Confirm: After selecting the desired mode, wait a few seconds for the thermostat to confirm the change.

Once the selection is made, the display will show whether the thermostat is in Heat or Cool mode.

FAQ: Why is my thermostat heating when I turn the temperature down?

If the thermostat is connected to a boiler and is set to Cool mode, lowering the temperature may unintentionally cause the heating to activate instead. This can create a continuous cycle where the temperature does not decrease as expected.

Change the mode back to Heat to fix this.

Programming Mode

The programming mode enables users to directly modify settings on the thermostat.

There are three settings available for adjustment: changing the Operation Modes (indicated as 'Mod'), toggling the Remote Relay function (marked as 'RM'), and adjusting the temperature offset (OFS).

  1. Enter Programming Mode: Press and hold the Down (-) button for 3 seconds to enter programming mode.
  2. Cycle Through the Settings: Use the Up (+) or Down (-) buttons to navigate through the three settings.
  3. Select the Setting: After selecting the desired setting, wait a few moments for the thermostat to confirm and enter the chosen mode. The screen will change to indicate this.
  4. Select the Desired Mode: Continue using the Up (+) or Down (-) buttons to cycle through the various modes or adjust the offset level, and again, allow a few seconds for the thermostat to save the new settings.

Caution: Wondrwall does not use the Remote Relay function; enabling it may hinder the effective operation of the heating system.

If the 'RM' indicator appears on the thermostat it should be disabled by this function by following the instructions provided below.

How to Pair the Wondrwall Thermostat

Setting up the thermostat for use with the Wondrwall system is simple. Follow these steps to get started:

  1. Open the Wondrwall App: Navigate to the "Devices" section via the Menu and press the add (+) button in the top right corner. Select "Thermostat" from the list.
  2. Power On the Thermostat: Remove the back cover of the thermostat and insert 2 AA alkaline batteries if not already present.
  3. Enter Pairing Mode: Press and hold the Up (+) button on the thermostat for 10 seconds. The display will show "Joi NET" when it's ready. This step is also detailed in the app. After that, tap "Next" to initiate the search for the thermostat.
  4. Start the Search in the App: The app will search for the thermostat, and after a few seconds, the network connection icon will disappear from the display of the thermostat, signalling that the thermostat has successfully paired with the network.
  5. Follow the App Instructions: Complete the setup by following the instructions on the Wondrwall app.

Diagnostics and Troubleshooting

Low Battery

The thermostat is designed for low power consumption, mitigating the need to replace the batteries frequently. However, it will send an alert through the Wondrwall app when the battery level is getting low.

Additionally, the thermostat will display a "Low Battery" icon, shown above when the batteries are running low.

Replacing the batteries

The thermostat is powered using 2 AA batteries. To replace the batteries, access the battery compartment by removing the front cover of the device.

To do this:

  1. Remove the Front Cover: Gently grip the top and bottom edges of the thermostat at its centre and squeeze to release the clips.
  2. Find the Batteries: The batteries are integrated into the front cover, as shown in the below video.
  3. Remove and Replace the Batteries: Remember that the device requires 2 AA batteries
  4. Refit the Cover: Align the two metal slot connectors with their corresponding holes on the thermostat base, then gently push the device back into the wall to secure the clips in place.

Remote Mode (RM)

If "RM" appears on the screen, the thermostat is in Remote Mode and attempting to control a relay remotely rather than the local device.

To switch this off:

  1. Enter Programming Mode: Press and hold the Down (-) button for 3 seconds to enter programming mode
  2. Cycle Through the Settings: Use the Up (+) or Down (-) buttons to navigate through the settings.
  3. Select the "Remote Mode" Setting: Find the Remote Mode setting, shown as "RM" on the screen and wait a few moments for the thermostat to confirm and enter the chosen mode. The screen will change to indicate this.
  4. Disable Remote Mode: Navigate to the "dS RM" option using the Up (+) button to disable Remote Mode.

Calibrating the Thermostat Temperature (Offset Adjustment)

If you find that the room temperature reading is inaccurate, you can adjust the temperature offset for better accuracy.

To do this:

  1. Enter Programming Mode: Press and hold the Down (-) button for 3 seconds to enter programming mode.
  2. Cycle Through the Settings: Use the Up (+) or Down (-) buttons to navigate through the settings.
  3. Select the "Offset" Setting: Find the Offset Adjustment setting, shown as "OFS" on the screen and wait a few moments for the thermostat to confirm and enter the chosen mode. The screen will change to indicate this.
  4. Change the Offset: Adjust the offset to reflect the difference between the actual room temperature and the temperature displayed on the thermostat. When selected, wait a few moments for the thermostat to confirm the change, the screen will revert back to displaying the current temperature.

Factory Reset

To remove the thermostat from the Wondrwall system, perform a factory reset by pressing and holding the function button (+) for 10 seconds.

This action will reset the device and disconnect it from the current network.
