Switching to Octopus Agile.

Using the Octopus Agile tariff with Wondrwall can further your energy bill savings by importing off-peak electricity when there is insufficient solar generation and exporting at peak times when you have a surplus.

While Wondrwall is compatible with both fixed and variable rate tariffs from any Energy Supplier, it is optimized for Time-Of-Use (TOU) tariffs that can help lower your energy bills. These TOU tariffs vary based on when you use energy, similar to peak and off-peak phone calls. By tracking the energy wholesale market and storing cheaper off-peak energy for use during expensive peak hours, TOU tariffs can provide significant savings.

Although not all energy suppliers offer TOU tariffs, Octopus does and is highly recommended for use with Wondrwall. We suggest switching to Octopus and their flexible tariff known as 'Agile', which has the potential to double your energy bill savings.

Switch to Octopus

To get started, if you are not already with Octopus, you will need to switch to Octopus. To do this, you’ll need to follow their switching process online at: https://octopus.energy/

Follow the link above and step through their process. On completion, you’ll have created an online account with Octopus and have a date when your switch will occur. The switch will typically take a couple of weeks to complete, once this is done you can start the next step.

Switch to Octopus Agile

To switch to Octopus Agile, follow this link and request your tariff be changed. This process should only take a couple of days to complete.

Setup Octopus Agile Outgoing

Because you have the Wondrwall Energy system you should also request an export tariff so you can be paid for the energy you generate but don’t use. The Outgoing Octopus tariff will pay you the best rate for this excess energy. Visit the following link and follow the steps to apply: https://octopus.energy/outgoing/

To access the export tariff you will be required to provide Octopus with some details of the
Wondrwall installation, namely:

  • Permission from Electricity Network (DNO, e.g. National Grid, UK Power Networks, Scottish & Southern, Electricity NorthWest, Northern Power Grid etc)
  • Microgeneration Certificate (MCS)

These documents have been included in your Wondrwall information pack and will need to be provided to Octopus as part of this process. Unlike changing your regular tariff, export tariffs require a second meter point number to be added to your existing smart meter. This can take several weeks to complete.
