Installing the Wondrwall Alarm Siren

Guidance for qualified electricians on safely mounting and commissioning the Wondrwall Alarm Siren for external home security.

Introduction

The Wondrwall Alarm Siren provides an audible and visual alert in the event of a security breach. It connects wirelessly to the Wondrwall system and operates on battery power. Correct installation is vital to ensure reliable operation, weather resistance, and effective tamper detection. This article provides step-by-step instructions for qualified electricians to install the Wondrwall Alarm Siren.

Safety & Compliance

  • Pair before fitting: The siren must be paired with the Wondrwall system at ground level by a Wondrwall engineer before it is handed over for installation. Do not mount the siren until it has been paired.

  • Working at height: Always follow site health and safety procedures. Use a ladder, MEWP, or scaffolding as appropriate for the mounting height.

  • PPE: safety glasses, gloves, hard hat (if required), and fall protection when working at height.

  • Tamper switch: the base must be secured firmly to keep the tamper engaged.

Before You Begin

Prerequisites:

  • Siren must be successfully paired with Wondrwall at ground level.

  • Suitable exterior wall location — visible, not obstructed, and high enough to deter tampering.

Tools required:

  • Drill and masonry bit (if fixing to brick/stone).
  • Wall plugs and screws (supplied).
  • Insulated screwdriver set.
  • Access equipment (ladder, MEWP, or scaffolding depending on site).

Installation Steps

Step 1: Prepare the Siren

  • At ground level, remove the siren cover by loosening the bottom screw (A).

  • Carefully tilt and lift the cover off from the bottom edge.

Step 2: Power On and Pair

  • Locate the battery switch (C) and turn it ON.

  • The siren must now be paired by a Wondrwall engineer at ground level.

Caution: Do not proceed to mount the siren until pairing is confirmed.

Step 3: Mount the Siren Base

  • Once paired, take the siren to its mounting location.

  • Hold the base plate against the chosen wall.

  • Mark and drill three fixing points (B).

  • Insert wall plugs where necessary.

  • Secure the siren base firmly with screws, ensuring the tamper switch (D) is fully depressed.

  • If the wall surface is uneven, use spacers to maintain pressure on the tamper switch.

Step 4: Replace the Cover

  • Hook the top lip of the cover onto the base.

  • Swing the cover into place.

  • Tighten the bottom screw (E) to lock the cover securely.

Verification

After installation:

  • Confirm no tamper alert is triggered when the siren is secure.

  • Trigger a test via the Wondrwall app or commissioning process to verify siren sounder and strobe.

  • Check that the siren is clearly visible from key approaches to the property.

Common Installation Errors to Avoid

  • Installing the siren before pairing at ground level.

  • Mounting the siren too low, making it easy to reach and disable.

  • Leaving the tamper switch partially engaged (causes false tamper alerts).

  • Not tightening the bottom screw fully, leaving the cover loose.

  • Mounting in a location prone to water ingress (avoid under gutter joints).

Handover to Wondrwall Engineer

Before leaving site:

  • Confirm that the siren was paired successfully before mounting.

  • Ensure the tamper switch is fully engaged.

  • Provide details of mounting height and access method used (ladder, MEWP, or scaffolding).

FAQs

Q: Can I mount the siren before pairing?
Whilst possible, ideally the siren must be paired at ground level by a Wondrwall engineer before it is installed at height.

Q: Does the siren need mains power?
No. It is battery powered and connects wirelessly to the Wondrwall system.

Q: Where should the siren be installed?
On an exterior wall, in a highly visible location, ideally at roofline height to deter tampering.

Q: How do I stop false tamper alerts?
Ensure the tamper switch is fully depressed by securing the base firmly. Use spacers if required.
